How do I apply for a building, electrical, gas, or plumbing permit?

Gill uses a regional building inspection program offered through the Franklin Regional Council of Governments called the Franklin County Cooperative Inspection Program. Contact information and applications can be found on the Inspection Program's website.

Where do I pick up a building permit ?

Building permits may be picked up in the Selectboard Office Mondays 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays - Thursdays 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Gill. If plans were submitted with the permit application, please bring an extra copy for the assessors' office when you come to pick up your permit; your permit will not be released without these plans.

Where can I find Gill's zoning bylaws ?

Hardcopies of our zoning bylaws are available in the Town Clerk's office for a fee of $6.50. Or, you may download a copy.

Whom do I contact if I have questions about how the zoning bylaws pertain to my property?

The Building Inspector enforces the town's zoning bylaws. If you have any questions regarding how the bylaws pertain to your property and whether or not you may be able to build, renovate, or install something on your property, please ask the building inspector. The Franklin County Cooperative Inspection Program may be reached at 413-772-2026.

What do I do if I have a problem with my trash or recycling pick up?

Please contact the hauling company directly with any complaints. The hauling company is currently Alternative Recycling Systems 413-587-4005. If your problem is not resolved by the hauling company, please contact the Board of Health at 413-863-0138 or health@gillmass.org.

Where can I buy trash stickers?

Stickers are $3.00 each and are sold at Town Hall, Wagon Wheel Restaurant, Upinngil Farm, and Spirit Shoppe Package Store. Scotty's in Turners Falls also sells trash stickers.

When and where can I get a pistol permit?

Pistol permits are processed by Officer Schreiver at the Gill Police Station, 196B Main Road. Appointments during Officer Schreiver's regular hours are preferred, but other times may be arranged. To make an appointment, or for futher information, leave a message at 413-863-9398.

Items needed for a NEW permit application
For a Class A, License to Carry Permit:

  • Current certification for firearms safety course (hunter safety course alone is not acceptable)
  • $100 check made payable to "Town of Gill"
  • Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or 16 years of age with parental consent form, at time of application.

For a Class C, Firearms Identification Card:

  • Current certification of either the firearms sfaety course or the hunter safety course
  • $100 check made payable to "Town of Gill"
  • Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or 16 years of age with parental consent form, at time of application.

Items needed for a RENEWAL application
For a Class A, License to Carry Permit:

  • $100 check made payable to "Town of Gill" (free for persons over 70)
  • Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)

For a Class C, Firearms Identification Card:

  • $100 check made payable to "Town of Gill" (free for persons over 70)
  • Massachusetts Firearms application (can be found at www.mass.gov or obtained through the police department)

For renewals, please watch your renewal date. The state is not sending everyone renewal notices anymore. When applying for a renewal, unless you are 70 years of age or older, you are not able to apply for your permit more than 30 days before its current expiration date. if you do, you will lose one year off of your renewed permit. If you apply within that window and before your premit expires, youa re grnated an additional 90-day extension while your permit is in process.

Is there a notary public at Town Hall?

The town Tax Collector and Treasurer, Ronnie LaChance, is a licensed Notary Public provides her services, for free, to all residents of Gill by appointment only. To make an appointment, contact Ronnie at 413-863-2105.

How can I get a copy of a property record card?

The Board of Assessors has made property record cards available online. Alternatively, you may contact the assessors' clerk at 413-863-0138 or assessors@gillmass.org. The assessors' office is open Monday - Thursday 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Monday evenings 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
