Thursday Tech Talks at the Gill-Montague Senior Center from 6pm - 7:30pm

Learn about Digital Legacy, Podcasting, and Internet Safety

Three Thursday Tech Talks

The Gill-Montague Senior Center invites the residents of Gill to a series of three Tech Talks in September aimed at keeping us informed of ongoing issues in our digital world. The subject matter will address Digital Legacy, Podcasting, and Internet Safety. The talks will run on successive Thursdays, Sept. 10, 17, and 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Digital Navigator Rich Vaden kicks off the series on Sept. 10, delving into what seniors should know about protecting access to digital assets, aka “digital legacy,” especially in regard to the federal RUFADAA ACT (Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets). Starting with gathering a digital asset inventory, he will address the issue of ensuring that family memories, financial assets, and important records remain in your, and your beneficiaries’, control. Rich recently appeared on the local podcast “Backyard OASIS” (Older Adults Seeking, Inspiring, and Serving) produced locally for seniors, by seniors, at Greenfield Community College.

Our second speaker, Henry Balzarini, is one of the producers of “Backyard OASIS.” On Sept. 17, he will introduce the basics and history of podcasting, demonstrate the advantages of learning things without leaving home and choosing exactly what you want to hear when you want to hear it. He will also demonstrate the simple steps for subscribing to this locally focused podcast.

Our third speaker, Anne Wiley, is a locally well-known and well-informed voice in digital literacy. She currently serves as Tech Tutor at the Northfield Center and is a frequent speaker at surrounding senior centers and libraries. Her “Internet Safety” lecture on Sept. 24 is ever-changing as she keeps up with the latest scams targeting seniors.

The public is invited to each, and all, of these free talks. Registration is encouraged but not required. All talks will include a question-and-answer period. This series is funded by a grant to the Town of Gill from the Massachusetts Broadband Institute at the Mass Tech Collaborative under the Municipal Digital Equity Implementation Program.
