Volunteers wanted to serve on a committee that will explore a possible school district merger for Gill, Montague, Bernardston, Leyden, Northfield, and Warwick
On April 16, 2019, the Gill Selectboard voted to establish a regional school district planning committee in accordance with MGL Chapter 71, Sec. 14. The intent is to study the feasibility, benefits, and costs of a possible merger of the towns of Gill and Montague and the four member towns of the Pioneer Valley Regional School District (Bernardston, Leyden, Northfield, and Warwick). Selectboards in these communities have taken similar action.
The Town of Gill now wishes to appoint representatives to that committee, which will be subject to appointment by the Town Moderator. Gill has the right to appoint three members, including 1 member of the existing GMRSD school committee.
Interested candidates are invited to apply to the Moderator. You are encouraged to include a statement expressing your reasons for participating, along with any specific areas of interest relative to the study of possible regionalization (i.e., governance, finance, curricula, student services, etc) and a list of your qualifications (a résumé or other summary of relevant experience).
Applications must be received by to 5 PM Thursday, September 19. They should be addressed to the Town Moderator and submitted via email to Town Administrator Ray Purington at administrator@gillmass.org or delivered to the Selectboard Office at the Town Hall, 325 Main Road, Gill.
