Gillbilly Paddle on the Connecticut River – Sorry, the event has been CANCELLED due to river conditions brought on by heavy rains. If the Paddle is rescheduled, the new date will be announced on the website and in the newspapers.
Your favorite Gill water event returns again this year on Saturday, July 22nd. The Gillbilly Paddle, sponsored by Gill’s Recreation Committee, features canoes, kayaks, rowing shells, and other small watercraft launching from the Northfield Mount Hermon School’s boat docks on the Connecticut River and paddling to the destination, the confluence of the Millers River and the Connecticut River. A highlight at the end of this scenic trip is the view looking up as your vessel passes under the magnificent French King Bridge.
Transportation for boats and people back to their cars up river will be provided. If you want to bicycle back to the starting point, your bike can be transported from the launch area to the destination. As an extra treat, the launch will start with a bang, provided by Ray Steele’s cannon.
Boaters should arrive at the Northfield Mount Hermon School docks (19 Speer Way, Gill) at around 9:30 a.m. The boats will launch at 10 a.m. Those paddling are expected to reach the finish around noon.
Liability release forms are required for all participants. Consent and release forms for children (under age 18) must be signed by all parents and/or guardians. Life jackets are also required for all participants. The event is free of charge and is open to Gill and non-Gill residents alike. The Liability release forms are located in the files section of the Gill Recreation Committee page.
