This traditional, no-bake festive treat is made from dried fruit, nuts and plenty of warm spices. Roll in crunchy sanding sugar for a sweet holiday treat fit for a party or cookie tin. Or enjoy them with your family on Christmas Eve while reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas’.
1 package (15 ounces) raisins*
2 cups pitted dried plums (prunes)*
2 TBSP honey
1/2 tsp. of each: cinnamon, ground fennel, vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. of each: cardamon, nutmeg
pinch of salt
1-1/2 cups chopped pecans
Sugar
In a food processor, combine the raisins, plums, mixed fruit and pecans. Cover and process until chopped. Transfer to a large bowl. Add the honey, cinnamon, fennel, vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg and salt and pulse until evenly combined. The mixture should just start to come together into a ball.
Roll into 1-in. balls, then roll in sugar. Place on waxed paper and let stand at room temperature for 4 hours. Store in an airtight container. Roll in additional sugar before serving if desired.
(NOTE: 3-4 cups of dried mixed fruit can be used in place of the raisons and dried plums)*
